How does leadership differ from management?

Leadership is not tied specifically to a position within an organization or business, while management is typically linked to a particular position that one holds in a business or organization. For example, a small business may have many individuals who serve as good leaders. They regularly share ideas for improvements in the business. They take the initiative to help their co-workers succeed. They act as role models for new employees. Management, on the other hand, is more often tied to a specific set of tasks (i.e., financial management, labor management, etc.).
Leadership is usually thought of as more big-picture thinking and future-oriented, while management generally deals with the “here and now.” Good managers are not always good leaders, and good leaders are not always good managers, although there are individuals who do both very well.
